This three-part JustFaith Catholic series, guides small groups in exploring the Gospel’s call to respond to major issues that intersect with poverty, including racial injustice, violence and environmental degradation. Over the course of three, eight-week sessions, Deacon Dennis will lead group discussions, share books, articles, and online videos, to expose participants to obstacles that hinder human flourishing, so that the group might explore how their own gifts and skills can meet the world’s needs. You may participate in all three sessions or individual sessions, as you wish, throughout the coming year.
Session One—Faith and Poverty: A Biblical Response. This first eight-week program lays the theological and biblical foundation for responding to poverty in our communities, so that we might engage actively in a way that honors the image of God in those we seek to serve. (September 2020)
Session Two—Faith and Poverty: A Solidarity Response. This session explores local poverty and introduces participants to the tips and tools they need to respond. Themes Include: Dignity and rights of workers; Self-sufficiency standard and underemployment; Childhood hunger; Trauma and addiction; and Housing and homelessness. (January 2021)
Session Three—Faith and Poverty: A Justice Response. This session introduces participants to the systems and structures that perpetuate poverty in their communities.
