The Paulist Fathers Mission and History
The Paulist Fathers Mission in Grand Rapids
The Catholic Information Center, the Cathedral of St. Andrew and St. Luke’s University Parish share the Paulist Mission toward three main goals:
- Evangelization – the preaching of the Gospel to those who have not heard it, invites all people to hear the Word of God and share in our Church life together. Further, the Paulist mission is to bring Gospel truth and the richness of Catholic tradition to the people, institutions and cultures of North America.
- Reconciliation – the work of healing and compassion, calls us to reach out to our Catholic brothers and sisters alienated from the Church community; and calls us to respond to the wounds of society and the hunger for peace and justice. We recognize that action on behalf of justice is constitutive of the preaching of the Gospel.
- Ecumenism – the search for the unity God wills for the Church, opens us to the spiritual riches and Gospel traditions of other Christian churches, and urges us to work with one another for unity in life and mission; opens us also to our unique spiritual kinship with the Jewish people; and to the movement of the Spirit in other world religions.
The recent establishment of three Paulist Foundations in the Diocese of Grand Rapids has allowed us to streamline and focus our efforts in ways appropriate to each organization.
